I cut around all the knots, cracks and nail holes in an old maple 4 × 4, and carved this upright fellow in 3 sections. After carving mainly Fir and Alaskan Yellow Cedar, it was a lot more of a struggle to work with a very hard piece of Maple. But the carved surface has a wonderful sheen because of that hardness. The piece measures 3” W x 16” H x 2” D.
